HOW ARE YOU?

“How are you?”
A simple line
But I never know
how to answer it right.

Should I go with “fine,”
the easy reply?
Or pour out the ache
I’ve kept inside?

Should I show you my scar?
The silence I speak?
The tears I’ve gathered
week after week?

But really
who am I kidding?
No one asks
how I’ve been living.
